Getting Started
Hello and welcome to Newhaven Gig Rowing Club. The following information will guide you through the sign-up process and get you out enjoying the beautiful River Ouse estuary in one of our lovely Cornish pilot gigs.
Welcome 👋
We’re so excited you’re thinking about joining our rowing club and we’d love to welcome you down to the river.
Getting started is easy. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll be out on the water in no time.
How to get started

Complete our membership form to get set up. There’s a one-off £5 joining fee.
👉 Click here to register - Join a taster rowing session (free)
Book a taster session to see if rowing is for you. We’ll let you know as soon as the next session becomes available.
Learn to Row Crew 🚣♀️
If you loved your taster row, you’ll become part of our Learn to Row Crew — how exciting!
You’ll take part in our Learn to Row sessions (£4 per session), where you’ll learn the basics of rowing and build confidence on the water. Most people are signed off as Competent Crew after around six sessions, once your cox feels you’re ready.
Becoming a Competent Crew member is a great moment — and it means you can start joining our regular rows, social sessions, and even racing.
Joining the club 🏅
Once you’re signed off as Competent Crew, you can become a full member of the club.
Membership costs:
£75 per year or £6.25 per month
£4 per row to cover boat and running costs
As a full member, you’ll be part of our friendly rowing community, with access to regular rows, social events, training sessions and races throughout the year.
